The White Card — officially called the General Construction Induction Training Card — is a nationally standardised safety credential required under Australian Work Health and Safety law. Anyone who performs construction work, or who routinely enters an operational construction site, must hold a valid White Card.
The qualification behind the White Card is CPCWHS1001: Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry — registered on training.gov.au under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The card is white, credit-card sized, displays the holder’s name and card number, and does not expire.
Once issued, your White Card is accepted on construction sites in every Australian state and territory — regardless of which state issued it. A White Card issued in NSW is valid in QLD, VIC, WA, and everywhere else. This is what ‘nationally recognised’ means.

The White Card requirement applies to anyone who carries out or is employed to carry out construction work in a construction zone. This is broader than most people expect:

The process is consistent across all states. The critical first step is confirming which state’s course you need:
The course you complete must be approved by the safety regulator for the state where you live. NSW residents → NSW course. QLD residents → QLD course. ACT residents → ACT course.
Upon booking, you will receive a confirmation email. One hour prior to the scheduled session, a Zoom link and enrolment form will be sent. The course can be accessed using a mobile phone, tablet, or computer.
Join the live online class, led by a qualified trainer, together with other participants. The session covers all required elements of the General Construction Induction Training.
