A WorkSafe ACT White Card is required to legally enter and work on a construction site in the Australian Capital Territory. This applies to anyone whose job involves routinely entering operational construction zones — tradespeople, traffic controllers, cleaners, machine operators and site supervisors.

Upon successful completion of the live online White Card course you'll be issued with a Statement of Training you can use the same day, plus a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001.

Whether you're in Canberra, Belconnen, Tuggeranong or regional ACT, you can complete the whole course from home in a single day.

WorkSafe ACT Requirements For Online White Card Training

Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (ACT) and its regulations, every person carrying out construction work in the Australian Capital Territory must hold general construction induction training. WorkSafe ACT enforces that requirement on Canberra's residential, commercial, civil and government construction projects, and Access Canberra issues the physical White Card.

WorkSafe ACT recognises training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation through a live, supervised virtual classroom. Our ACT classes are delivered live over Zoom under The Careers Academy, RTO 46244, so the CPCWHS1001 Statement of Attainment you receive is nationally recognised and accepted across the ACT.

Classes are capped so the trainer can interact with each student, your 100 points of ID is checked on camera at the start of the session, and your PPE (hi-vis, hard hat, eye and hearing protection) is sighted during the practical components. Training is delivered under The Careers Academy, RTO 46244, so the Statement of Training you receive is issued by an approved provider.

Inside The 6-Hour Live Zoom Class — Hour By Hour

The ACT session runs for approximately six hours including breaks. The first block covers the WHS Act 2011 (ACT) and WHS Regulation, the roles of PCBUs, workers and site supervisors, and the duty of care you personally carry the moment you step on site.

The middle blocks are the practical heart of the course: identifying hazards common on ACT sites — falls from height, powered mobile plant, electricity, asbestos in older housing stock, silica dust from cutting engineered stone and concrete — then applying the hierarchy of control to each one. You'll work through Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), toolbox talks, signage, and the emergency and incident-reporting steps your employer will expect you to know on day one.

The final block covers PPE selection and fitting, fire extinguisher types and use, and your written and verbal assessment. Your trainer marks the assessment during the session, so you leave the class knowing you have passed — there is no waiting days for a result.

The Access Canberra Card Issuance Step, Explained

The ACT model separates the qualification from the card. A Registered Training Organisation assesses you against CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry and issues a Statement of Attainment; you then present that Statement to Access Canberra, which issues the territory's construction induction card. Because the government issues the card rather than the trainer, WorkSafe ACT accepts the live virtual classroom delivery model.

On the day you complete the class we issue your Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001. You then lodge that Statement with Access Canberra — online through their construction induction card service or in person at a service centre — together with proof of identity. Access Canberra verifies the qualification with the RTO where required, produces your ACT White Card and posts it to you. A small government fee applies for card issuance and is separate from your course fee.

While you wait, most Canberra employers accept your Statement of Attainment plus photo ID as evidence of induction training, so you are generally able to start work straight away. Once your card arrives, carry it on site at all times — WorkSafe ACT inspectors and site supervisors can request it.

Who Needs A White Card In The ACT

Canberra's construction pipeline is heavily weighted toward government and institutional projects, apartment and townhouse developments in Gungahlin, Belconnen, Woden Valley and Molonglo, plus light rail, roadworks and civil infrastructure.

Anyone entering those sites needs induction training: labourers, apprentices, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, concreters, plant operators, traffic controllers within the construction zone, site cleaners, surveyors, engineers, safety officers, project managers and regular delivery drivers.

Because the ACT is small and workers routinely cross into surrounding NSW towns such as Queanbeyan, many students hold work in both jurisdictions. Your CPCWHS1001 qualification is national, but the physical card differs — read our New South Wales page if you will also be working across the border.

Top Benefits of White Card Webinars for WorkSafe ACT Training

You join a live class from anywhere in the ACT with no travel to a classroom in Canberra. Morning, evening and Sunday sessions mean you can fit training around work or study.

The course is completed in a single day and your Statement of Attainment is emailed the same evening, so you can start applying for jobs immediately.

Because training is delivered under The Careers Academy (RTO 46244), your CPCWHS1001 Statement of Attainment is nationally recognised — not just in the ACT.

How Your ACT White Card is Issued

Once your live class and assessment are complete, we email your Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001, usually the same day.

You then take or upload that Statement to Access Canberra to obtain your physical WorkSafe ACT White Card. Access Canberra issues the card itself — we issue the training qualification that makes you eligible.
